Fitting emopeds on existing city charging grids

Looking at iniciatives like Betterplace, one might imagine that it makes sense to already plan how open source electric motorcycles like our e.Moped will fit existing city infrastructures. I am not sure if we will ever come close to a standard for all electric motorcycles but it is quite good to already start a discussion around this subject. It might be that a we will have to have a hybrid version before all houses get an own dedicated "vehicle charging outlet".

The sketch above tries to exemplify such hybrid solution where our e.Moped gets two batteries, BAT 01 (see picture) provided by the electric charging grid provider, with a special socket that fit charging stations around the city (ex: Betterplace) and BAT 02,  just like any other battery today, that you can detach a take to your office for example, and charge on any power outlet. That way, you could be more flexible and get around possible situations where you don't see any charging station near you.

Image that by having such hybrid solutions, users could benefit also from battery switch station for electric motorcycles. Check this video of a prototype from Betterplace's battery switch station for cars.

Should we take that as a design requirement? How would two batteries of different management systems work together? should we think about developing guidelines for charging stations so cities could have access to this technology? Are there already examples of charging stations for motorcycles out there?

Skateboard Truck CAD Model for download

Back in 2007, I modeled this skateboard truck in Rhino to help the design process of the Folha Seca skateboard. It was published at the ecosk8 blog back then but since our new website, the file wasn't available. After getting some comments from people requesting the file, I now published it on Letsevo's open database. Enjoy the model! make it better, send news of what you make with it.

Flexible Box Frame - Multiple Configurations Sketch

Taking the idea of flexible adjustment points further, I sketched this the other day: 2 different motorcycle styles we could make with a Flexible Box frame. A MX configuration above, for riding trails and racing on the weekend, and a Scooter configuration, for zooming to the beach or taking the girlfriend to the movies.

I don't know yet how massive the Box module should be to handle all torsion going on while riding...we will need some engineering anyway in the future =)

Feedback plz...
